Animation

First Comes Love - Animated Short Film from Daniel Ceballos on Vimeo.

I chose this short film by Blue Sky Studios animator Daniel Ceballos because it shows a non-dialouge approach that tells the character's situations clearly. It tells the story of a boy named Eric whose being dragged into a pretend life of marriage by a girl named Zoey throughout recess.
Eric's expressions and movement are full of subtlety in sowing that he is very timid about the thought of a married life, whereas Zoey is bubbly and determined to give Eric an education on how their future would be like.

In this emotional scene in Pixar's Inside Out, Riley comes back home after she tries to run away to her hometown in Minnesota. There, she confesses to her parents that the really misses home and so did her parents. This scene was brilliantly animated by Allison Rutland, who won an Annie Award for this scene. It shows that a character can let out his/her feeling in her face, without being too broad with body movements.

 Sadness - Inside Out

I chose this scene from a Pixar Internship reel by Theresa F. Reyes because it shows that Sadness is curious at first, but then she becomes frightened it it starts to budge, and hides herself in her turtle neck collar. The way she did that was a nice touch to show her timidness.

I found this scene from a shot progression of a scene in Disney's Big Hero 6 by animator Jose Gaytan. Here we see Hiro Hirmada ordering Baymax to destroy Callaghan for leaving his brother Tadashi to die. This shows that the animator gets in the skin of the character. Hiro is releasing his anger in a way that audiences can identify the situation that's happening in the scene.
